The planning task addresses the current issue of demographic change, the ‘urbanisation’ of our living environments and increasing urban sprawl, especially of rural areas.
The concept ‘A centre of our own making’ offers exemplary solutions to this problem. It establishes a framework that enables future users to adapt and ‘program’ these spaces individually. The plan is to disassemble the former sales hall in the centre and to create a new central ‘village square’ surrounded by a new residential development. The existing ensemble of buildings from different development contexts will also be joined by a new building in the rear part of the property. In addition, the entire heterogeneous ensemble is formally consolidated in a ‘city shelf’.
