Waldorf School

Extension of the Waldorf School in Kleinmachnow

The competition for the construction of the all-day school for years 1 to 3 and the preschool class of the Waldorf School in Kleinmachnow was focused on meeting the requirements of the youngest pupils. Based on their needs, the design approach addresses various ways to achieve the appropriate structural scale for this age group. The children need to feel as if their expectations and requirements are met inside the building. It should reinforce the school’s identity and encourage the children to identify with their school.

The building is divided into individual structures and features a distinctive green roof, which spreads out over the entire complex. The building has a versatile, fragmented look with its repeatedly folded facades. Outdoor areas are designed with a range of characteristics and options for use according to the given requirements. The building blends in with the natural setting, creating a transition to the surrounding area. The facade with ‘jumping’ windows plays with scale and gives the building a child-friendly, approachable appearance.
