Wirtshaus zur Sieberei

Guest house in the Black Forest

A new inn with a striking slab formwork has been built close by the babbling waters of the Rotmurg in Baiersbronn. A slab from local tree trunks was used for the facade formwork with a natural drip edge, which is usually produced by cutting planks to size as residual material in the sawmill. In the neighbouring building, modest guest rooms were made for hikers, who can enjoy the unique experience of wood as a building material during their stay.

In terms of urban planning, the new building is carefully integrated into the existing development. Its volume and roof design with dormers are typical of the local area. The base of the building is made of recycled sandstone. At the same time, the special use of local wood gives the building a poetic touch. The inn has a spacious dining area over two floors that extends through a spacious terrace all the way to the Rotmurg. Food and drink are served here to the sound of the babbling waters and a panoramic view of a Black Forest meadow landscape. The main feature of the interior is a traditional wooden construction made of black beams in the local carpenter style. Like the base of the building, the counter is made of recycled sandstone. The white surfaces of the wooden stud exterior walls provide a harmonious contrast to the visible, artisanal construction.
